My message
was to engage the youth to participate in taking responsibility for their
future, since I found they are the largest non-voting percentage in New Zealand.
When looking at my research I found the reason of those who did not vote in New
Zealand was often being childish and lazy, hence why I decided to base my
poster on toddlers. Playing on pathos as my main element of rhetoric persuasion
I photographically manipulated my imaginary to be humorous but slightly cringe
worthy in being perceived as a child. For my font I chose a slightly playful
title and the clean Helvetica type for the important message of voting.

Adding heads on to kids bodies

New photographs
I asked the kindergarten next door to Massey if some of the children and parents would like to help me with my project in return i would take family studio portraits of there children for them. the little boy is called Nicholas and the girls name is Mia, i also had to ask a random student to help me since i needed more dramatic facial hair than what my flat mate henry had. I am super happy with how the shoot went i can't wait to see what the imagery end up looking like !
Development 2
I added to children because i didn't want my poster to speck to only one gender, I also cut down the font to three words with a more positive message since its an easier technique to persuade others to vote, Feedback from my classmates and tutor is use little kids ? to make the imagery even more dramatic.

Baby Blocks
I made my own font on illustrator using pastel colours, this hard since i am not really amazing at illustrator but it did teach me alot

Development
In interim my classmates said I should try a more playful font like baby blocks and also try a different composition, I think this make a more dramatic impact on the viewer than the lighter font !

INTERIM 2
with the feedback i got from my classmates and tutors i looked into my two strongest ideas, time to grow up and stoping living in your bubble,
the feedback i got was to change the font for the top headline, soften
the hair more, less text for the bottom information, try out suing different genders and neutral gender colours also try make the photography even more dramatic

Original idea, art direction, retouch: Cristian Girotto
Photography: Quentin Curtat.
Photography: Quentin Curtat.
i feel that Cristian Girottos work is super helpful to my concept its very close to something i want to achieve !
they have done a pretty amazing job of making adults look like children
INTERIM 1
I presented to the class three ideas, Stop living in your bubble, time to grow up and trapped in a bottle. the feed back I got is to look into Bubble and time to grow up as trapped in a bottle sends the wrong messages e.g. drinking not voting. they also liked my thumbnail for the puppet idea.

Chosen ideas
From my thumbnail exploring and discussions in class I narrowed my ideas down to six main concepts
the idea behind this one is a play on words ( pun) of don't just bobble along or in other words don't just agree with everything/ dont but silly like a bobble head, placement of the font vote on staring weel
Stop living in your bubble eg stop living in a illusion/ fanstay world of everything will being ok.
positive take on a message eg your vote can make a difference. I want the imagery to be catching to the eye and unusual until you read the voting message and they connect together.
My idea behind this thumbnail is a non realting photograph vs with the text.
similar to the bubble idea some one being trapped from the outside word with there negative views on voting eg stop bottling up your ideas on how the country could be better every voice counts
Act your age is targeted towards the youth since they are the largest % of non voters I want to create a image that is funny but also cringe worthy so that it catchs the eye. with a powerful message of growing up and taking responsibility of your future
We control them making john key or some one who looks like a paralment member being controlled by an everyday kiwi / young voter, the concept behind this idea is use your vote to control them they are the puppets we pull the strings if we vote

Thumbnails
I thought about the non voting argument as it helps me to understand what the opposing option would be, here are some thumbnails for anti voting
When creating my thumbnails I was constantly look back at my mind map, research and De Bono thinking hats, here are some of my strongest ideas we had a discussion in class about what ideas to pursue I feel that when I look at my research people seem to under the illusion that their vote won't count so they come up with some lazy excuses, hence this is my idea behind living in a bubble/ issiuson/ head in the sand/ grow up. I want to wake people up to the fact they are being lazy and stupid for not paying an effort to our country and their future ( over 1 million didn't in 2011 ) I want to target my poster to the youth since they are the biggest % who don't vote.
thinking hats !
